Freddie Faith “Fred” Bonnet, 83, formerly of Uvalde, a Fredericksburg resident, died at Villagio Nursing Home in Kerrville, Texas. He was born December 11, 1931, in San Marcos to the late Naomi Dickens and Ben Otto Bonnet.

From 1951-1954 Fred served in the Navy on the submarine USS Shasta. Following his naval service he began his own farming and dairy business. Soon after he met and married Shirlene Behrends on August 7, 1958, in San Marcos. They continued the dairy and farming business in La Pryor for over fifteen years.

Known for his strong work ethics Fred started Bonnet Pallet Co. in Uvalde at the age of 60. Another business venture Fred pursued was the sheep and goat business. He was known throughout southwest Texas for his sheep and goat knowledge and was highly respected by many as well as those who depended on him for help. Recently he was forced to quit working due to healthy problems.

His love for God and his family were top priorities in Fred’s life. Providing for his family was an early focus and continued throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, Shirlene Behrends Bonnet, of 57 years, three sons and one daughter, Robert Kenneth Bonnet and wife Patsy of Fredericksburg, Mark Bonnet and wife Diana of Uvalde, Regina Beauchamp and husband Randall of Sunrise Beach, and Layne Bonnet and wife Karon of Troup, Texas, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He is also survived by one sister, Iva Jean Davis, of Independence, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two brothers, and one grandson.

Also surviving are two brothers, four sisters in laws & spouses, William & Frances Behrends of Fredericksburg, Dolores, Mrs. Henry Roos of Fredericksburg, Betty & Alfons Riba of Stonewall, Elaine & Clarence Jenke of Doss, Texas, James Eugene Behrends of Kerrville, Genevieve & Melvin Boerner of Comfort, Texas

Pallbearers are his grandchildren: Jana Weber, Jason Rowan, Jacob Rowan, Kaley Kelly, Taylor Bonnet, Brennan Fertig, Amy Bonnet, Brittaney Bonnet, and Rainey Bonnet.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 21, 6:00-9:00 PM, at Schaetter Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. A graveside service and internment will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery in Doss, Texas, on Saturday, August 22, 11:00 AM. A reception will follow in St. Peter Lutheran Church Reception Hall.
