Mildred Holder was born in Port Arthur, TX to Bennie Otto and Naomi Dickens Bonnet on November 1, 1919. She graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1936 from Medina High School and received a teaching certificate from Southwest Texas University at San Marcos. Mildred taught school in west Texas until she married Albert F. Holder on Christmas Day, 1938. Mildred and Albert dairy farmed in south Texas until 1975, when they started water and oil well drilling around the state. Mildred was bookkeeper for the family businesses as well as for other enterprises.
Grandma, as she was known by all, was famous for her generous giving heart and her love of yard work. She funded many of her grandchildren's college educations, including degrees in engineering, medicine, law, broadcasting, marketing, music and aviation. Her loving heart was touched by others suffering, and she gave generously to help anyone in need. Mildred's best legacy is the shining example of God's love and forgiveness that she shared with us all. She lived her faith, full of humbleness and devotion to her Lord.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Albert F. Holder and one son Timothy Mark Holder.
She is survived by two sons Albert A. Holder of Pharr, TX and John D. Holder of Lytle, TX, two daughters Linda Faye Ullery of Blue Springs, MO and Sara Michaels of Devine, TX, two sisters, Edna Anthony of Colorado Springs, CO and Iva Gene Davis of Independence, MO, and one brother Fred Bonnet of Uvalde, TX.
