Helen Petek, 1007 S. Seventh St., died of natural causes Monday in St. Mary's Hospital. She was 89. A Funeral service wil be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Callahan Edfast Mortuary with the Rev. Curtis Solum officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Petek was homemaker, and election judge and had worked for the Kuner-Epson Inc.
She was born June 8, 1906, to Joseph and Mary Stulac Sodja in Crested Butte. She spent her childhood in Crested butte and Palisade and attended school in Palisade. She married Floren Petek on May 17, 1920, in Marble. He died Oct 27, 1973 in Grand Junction. Mrs. Petek lived in Crested Butte, Denver and Hudson, Wyo., before moving to the Grand Valley in 1933. She attended St.Joseph's Catholic Church. Mrs. Petek enjoyed sewing, cooking and crafts. Survivors include four sons, Joe and John, both of Grand Junction, Tom of Priest River, Idaho, and Frank of Riverton, Wyo., four daughters, Frances Kindsvater of Westminster, Mary Ann Lyon of Farmington, N.M., Elizabeth McCarrie of San Pablo, Calif., and Katherine Stokes of Grand Junction; 19 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren; and eight Great-great-grandchildren.
Memorail contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
