John was the first burial in Dobbins Cemetery which then was his land. No marker or Tombstone.

Spouse: Jane (Jeannie) Burns born 1810 Greenbrier, VA.
d/o Peter and Jane Miller Burns died Oct. 2, 1889 in Atlantic, Cass County, Iowa John and Jane Burns Porter were married abt. 1825. They lived in Cabell County and owned 300 acres on Mud River and Forks of Trace Creek. They left Cabell County in 1838 and settled in Lawrence County, Ohio until about 1841 when they migrated to Jasper County, Indiana. John purchased two 40 acre plots of land in White County, 1842, Section 36, Twp 28N, Range 6W SE SW 40 acres and another 40 acres Section 36, Twp 28N, Range SW SW adjoining the other parcel. John must have died suddenly from exposure due to the swampy and stagnant water lying on this area of land with no natural drainage outlet, which caused much sickness among the early settlers of fever, ague, mosquitos born disease, as well as the contamination of their wells and drinking water supply. He left Jane Burns Porter with nine children to raise. Some of their children married into the WIlliam Jordan Family of Jordan's Grove, they being neighbors of the Porter's and who lived in the same vicinity of Cabell County, WV. and who probably enticed them to join them in Indiana.

Jane Burns Porter married secondly to Thomas Coons, widower who had lost his wife in 1848-9 and had two daughters by that marriage. They were married in White County, Indiana 19 Feb. 1850. They migrated to Cass County,Iowa in 1852 where Thomas was one of the first two settlers in Washington Twp. John Porter's land was sold to Jackson Dobbins in 1851-52 with the oldest Porter son, Wm E. Porter appointed to serve as guardian to the younger Porter children who had already gone to Iowa with their mother and step-father.

Thomas J. Porter born 1828 Cabell Co.. WV. Thomas sold his one eight inheritance to Jackson Dobbins. Thomas J. Porter: Listed as selling land in 1852, to J. Dobbins (died July 12,1858) Burial: Unknown

Kasilas Calvert Porter born 1830 Cabell Co. WV died 1849 just a few months after his marriage to Elizabeth C. Jordan in 1849 at Jordan's Grove. Daughter, Nancy M. Porter, born after his death. She was raised in the homestead of her grandparents, William and Catherine Jordan. Her mother, Elizabeth died in 1852-54. Both buried in Remington Cemetery, Jasper Co.,IN.

John Francis Marion Porter born Jane 20, 1832 in Cabell Co. WV died 5 Oct. 1915 in Essex, Page County, Iowa married Sarah Jane Jordan d/o William and Catherine Jordan of Jordan's Grove, Indiana. Sarah Jane died in Essex, Iowa 1886. Both buried in Essex Cemetery.

Patrick Henry Porter born 18 Jan. 1834 in Cabell Co. WV. Died 14 Feb. 1914 in Yorktown, Page Co. IA. married Isabelle Heckathorn Aug. 7, 1864. She was born 18 July 1841 and died 26 Feb. 1914. Both are buried in Polsley Cemetery, Yorktown, IA. Both died of pneumonia.

Claudius Floris Fletcher Porter born 15 March, 1836 Cabell Co. WV died in Missouri Valley, IA. 29 Jan. 1907. Married: Pollyann Puckett in Cass Co., IA. She was born 21 March, 1840 and died 24 Sep. 1897 in Wasco Co., ORE.

Helen Miriam Pandora Porter born 1838 in Cabell Co. died unknown in early adulthood. Married: William (Will) Bryan in Cass Co.,IA. 2 Oct. 1857. Had one daughter Susan Bryan

Sarah Jane Porter born 25 Oct. 1841 in Lawrence Co. OH. died in Lawton, Woodbury Co. IA. 13 Nov. 1920. Married: Henry Christopher Bappe in Cass Co.,IA. 26 Oct. 1857. Marriage Bond dated 6 Oct. 1857. Henry C. Bappe was born 22 May,1826 in Prussia, Germany died 2 March 1908 in Lawton, Woodbury Co.,IA. Both buried in Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa

Susan Porter died in Indiana at the age of five or six, abt. 1848. She may have been born after the death of her father. Burial unknown but could be buried with her father on his land. No marker. Dobbins Cem.

Thomas Coons was first married to Jane Lewis in Indiana. She died 1848-49. Two daughters born to this union. Louisa Jane Coons who married Phillip Humerich Angeline Coons who died young.

Thomas and Jane Burns Porter Coons had two children, born in Indiana, from their union. Elizabeth Louise Coons and George F. M. Coons. Buried in Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Cass Co.,IA with Jane Burns Porter Coons and Thomas Coons.
