Joe A. Whittington, 77, of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 29, 2015, at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.
He was born Sept. 19, 1937, in Ansonia, son of the late Kenneth and Mary F. (McGee) Whittington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Travis Abel; a son-in-law, Kenny Peace; and his in-laws, Melvin and Geraldine Baumgardner.
Joe was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He was retired from the Union City Body Company. A member of the Union City American Legion, he was an avid woodworker, gardener, and Bengals, Reds, and Ohio State fan.
Joe is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary (Baumgardner) Whittington, whom he married October 19, 1984; children, Jo Carole (Ronald) Rucker, Jill Newman, Jann Peace, Debbie Hammontree, Mike (Sharie) Hammontree, Cheryl (Kevin) Fraley, Bob (Chris) Klosterman, Jodie (Phillip) Turner, and Jackie Sease; grandchildren, Jeremy Hammontree, Nikole Baldridge, Eric (Angela) Newman, Brittni (Borrao) Newman, Delphus Peace, Alex Peace, Zachary (Sophie) Hammontree, Janae Hammontree, Jaimie (Cody) Anderson, Lindsay (Paul) Fraley, Nicholas Fraley, Mason and Allen Klosterman, Holly (Josh) Abel, Jordy (Jessica) Wolford, Tyler and Derrick (Amanda) Gump, P.J. and Kaytie Turner, Chelsey (Dustin) Shiverdecker, and Charlie Lane Shinn. Great-grandchildren, Travis Wolford, J.J. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Mark Gates officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Ansonia Cemetery.
