Bessie Jones was born in Aug. of 1875 at Grampian, PA to William Jones and Mary E McGinty.

1880 Penn, Clearfield, PA, William Jones 53 born abt 1827, a Farm Laborer, Mary 47 born abt 1833, Idah 13, Frank 7, Bessie 5, all listed as black and born PA.

Bessie was possibly first married to a Robert Armstrong (as noted on daughter Lottie's death certificate), and secondly married to John W Brown.

Bessie died on Sept. 19, 1923 at the Williamsport, PA Hospital. She was 48 years old, black, and married. Bessie was buried on Sept. 22nd at Lock Haven, PA. The informant on her death certificate was Silva Brown of 222 Walnut St.

Death of Former Resident.
Mrs. John Roberts, 632 East Church street, was informed by telephone today of the death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Bessie Brown, wife of John Brown, who became ill Tuesday and passed away at her home in Williamsport this morning. The family formerly resided in this city, removing to Williamsport about a year ago. Deceased leaves her husband and three sons, William, Clarence, and Harvey.

Brown. Mrs. John W. Brown, of 222 Walnut Street, passed away on Wednesday at the Williamsport Hospital, 48 years old. She left her husband and three sons, also a sister and three brothers. Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at Lock Haven.

Note: Neither Bessie's death certificate or obituary list place of burial, it only assumed that she is with her husband at Highland since the death certificate says burial Lock Haven. Possibly further investigation or church records could clarify.

Her mother and daughter are also buried there. They are next to a Benjamin Franklin Brown, born in VA, it is unclear of their relationship to him, if any.
