Fredrick Isaac Hurst was the last child of Lavina M. Brown and William S. Hurst. He married Winifred O'Neil on September 26, 1907 in Glendive, Montana. Together they had three children: Joseph, Anne/Etta Mae, Lavina In 1913 the Sidney volunteer fire department was organized, and Fred was made chief. On April 12, 1915, Sidney was incorporated as a city and Fred became the first Chief of Police, serving until 1941. He became the Chief of police of Richland County from 1915 to 1941, and thus got his nickname "Cop". (Bio by: Jay Lance)
