According to The Story of Hackettstown, New Jersey 1754-1955, p. 36, online at ancestry.com, Elizabeth (Boyd) Hance is buried next to her husband John Hance, who died Nov 26, 1846. Other sources (i.e., Chambers, Theodore Frelinghuysen. The Early Germans of New Jersey; Their History, Churches, and Genealogies. Dover, NJ, USA: Dover Printing Company, 1895--also on ancestry.com) indicate that Elizabeth Boyd is married to John Hance, born 1768, NOT John Hance 1738-1816. There is a 43-year age gap for Elizabeth (1781-1851) to have married the older John, and Elizabeth is credited with having at least one Hance child with her husband, John, as late as 1823, 7 years after the older one's death.

The original gravestone is worn and difficult to read, at least by photo, and evidently in person, as well; clearly 1846 was mistaken for 1816 and 1768 for 1738, thus the wrong John Hance was marked as the grave of a Revolutionary War soldier. The actual person buried there would have been too young to be a Revolutionary War soldier. His parents, Henry (1736-1813) and Catherine (?-1807), are buried near him and would have been far too young to give birth to the one alleged to have been born in 1738.
