John William Marr Sr, age 79, joined the Church Triumphant on September 11, 2010. A child of God, devoted husband and father, deacon, Army veteran and retired postal worker, John's life was devoted to his family and to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ through his ministry of music.

John was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 14, 1931. He graduated from East High School in 1949. John married Lucille Duff on June 2, 1951 and served as a member of the armed forces from 1951 until 1953. Upon his return to Columbus, the Marrs' raised their four children while providing a loving foster home to many boys and girls for over 25 years.

To know John, however, is to know his love of the Church and gospel music. His musical accomplishments include serving as assistant minister of music for Macedonia Baptist Church where he directed the Young People's/Young Adult Choir, Male Chorus and sang as a member of the Chancel Choir for over 30 years.

As the founding member of the John Marr Ensemble, John shared his love of the Lord and music throughout central Ohio from 1981 until 1993. In 2004, as a member of the Lamplighters Choral Ensemble, John was inducted into the Columbus Senior Musicians Hall of Fame in recognition of the group's significant contributions to the central Ohio music community.

He was preceded in death by parents, John and Flora Marr; brothers, James Marr Sr. and Henry "Hank" Marr.
