Purple Gang members; Joe Lebowitz, Hymie Paul and Isadore Sutker decided they wanted to move up in the criminal underworld. On September 16, 1931, all three were lured to the Collingwood Apartments under false pretenses and shot dead. Keywell was tried and convicted for his role in the "Collingwood Apartment Massacre" and served 34 years at Jackson State Prison in Marquette, Michigan.
