The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean Sea 180 nautical miles (330 km) east south east of Malta (34°52′N 18°14′E) by SM U-40 with the loss of 13 of her crew.

On the 19th August 1917 she was torpedoed by submarine k.u.k U-40 and sunk when 180 miles SExE3/4E of Malta and on route from Ergasteria for Middlebrough with a cargo of manganese ore, lead and arsenic."
