US ARMY - WORLD WAR II

Emil Matthew Piontek, 89, of Harwick, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015. He was met in heaven by his wife, Rosemarie Patula Piontek; oldest son, David Emil Piontek; parents, Frank and Anna Mareka Piontek; and numerous brothers and sisters. Emil was formerly employed as a federal mine inspector by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, an Army veteran, serving in World War II, and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Harwick. He is survived by his loving children, Richard Ivan (Debbie) Piontek, of Springdale; and daughter, Melissa Piontek (John) Schaefer, of Glenshaw. He was an exceptional Poppy to Catlin, Patrick, Matthew and Emily Schaefer. He is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews. Emil will be remembered for his generosity, his unwavering love and commitment to his family and his beloved dog, Oreo, and his sense of humor. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Cheswick at the CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOME INC., 1607 Pittsburgh St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Victory Church, celebrated by the Rev. Alan Morris. Burial will follow in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations honoring Emil's life be made to one of the following charities: Furkin Rescue, PO Box 5, South Park, PA 15129 or VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, Volunteer Service (118V-A), 1010 Delafield Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15215. www.jarviefuneralhome.com.
