Walter E. Button, of R.R. 1, Springville, died Saturday at the Tyler Memorial Hospital, TunkhannockBorn March 24, 1924, in Springville Township, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Helen C. Garrison Button. He graduated from Springville High School in 1942. He served in the 117th 30 Division of the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Belgium and Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. He earned the Victory H Medal of Honor. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a farmer on the family farm. He also was employed by David Hunter Well Drilling Co., Springville; Francis Strumski Well Drilling, Tunkhannock; Keystone Harvester Co.; and Mr. Z's Food Market, Tunkhannock. He attended Lynn United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Lou Button; brothers, Duane and Jay Button; and sisters, Pauline Button, Jessie Palmer, and Irene Conrad. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Mary E. Posten; sons, Walter L., Urbana, Ill.; Robert, Springville; Rodney, Dallas; daughters, Donna DiLuzio, Georgetown, Del.; Barbara Schultz, Richmond, Va.; Dr. Sandra Lane, Tunkhannock; Janice Button, at home; sister, Shirley Furman, Waverly, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Roger Yoder, pastor of Lynn United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Lynn Cemetery, Lynn. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
