OBITUARY- LENA AUGUSTA MERTES
Lena Augusta Mertes, Colonial Acres, born December 14, 1886, Steinauer, Nebraska, passed away December 12, 1979 at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 12 days.
Lena was the daughter of Albert and Barbara Zelenka. She resided at Table Rock, Ne., in 1914 and Steinauer, Ne. She attended the Clear Creek School. Lena loved the work of being a Seamstress and Homemaker.
Lena was married to Thomas Mertes, February 17, 1914, Burchard, Nebraska. During their married years the couple lived in Table Rock, Ne., Omaha, Ne., and Humboldt, where she lived till her death. Lena's occupation during her married years was homemaker at the Catholic Church, of which she was a member.
She is survived by her two children, Arthur Mertes, Table Rock, Ne., and Mrs. Mabel Morse, Russell, Ia. Two grandchildren, Harlan Mertes, Lincoln, Ne., and Donald Mertes, Table Rock, three great-grandchildren; plus many friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, three sisters, Mattie Fencl, Mary Vrtiska, and Alma Vrtiska, and her husband.
Funeral services were held Saturday December 15, 1979 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Steinauer, Ne., with Fr. Harold Birkel officiating. Interment was at the St. Anthony's Cemetery, Steinauer, Ne.
Pallbearers were Lawrence Paul, George Fencl, Jess Fencl, Arnold Mertes, Table Rock and Elmer Vrtiska, Pawnee City.
