Ayers Stevens was born in Thompkins County, N. Y., November 23, 1828, and died at his home in Eureka, August 10, 1900. He came with his parents to Ohio while quite young and settled in Delaware County, where he resided until grown to manhood.

He came to Essex, Clinton County, Michigan in 1853, where in the same year he was united in marriage with Miss Eveline Van Sickle. They settled on a farm in northwest Duplain, where they resided about one year, when they removed to Essex, where they resided until they came to Eureka in 1890. Ten children were born to them.

In 1868 deceased was thrown from a vehicle which resulted in the loss of his right limb and three years ago was stricken with paralysis, and with patience has born his helplessness uncomplainingly. His companion died January 9, 1900, having preceded him to the beyond only seven months.

The funeral was held at the Christian church, Sunday August 12, sermon by Rev. E. Mudge, of Maple Rapids,
