Lucile Payne Kitchens, age 85, of Jasper, Alabama, passed away Friday, 2 Oct 2015 at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, Alabama.

Born 11 Sep 1930, in Akron, Alabama, she was the baby of nine children born to Bishop and Nancy Payne. She married her husband, Herbert C Kitchens, on 18 Jul 1950, and they were bleeders with 55 years together before he passed away in 2005.

Mrs. Kitchens attended Five Mile Primitive Baptist Church as a child, where she united in membership in July of 1948 at the age of 17. After marrying Herbert, they lived briefly in Birmingham, Alabama, before moving to Fort Dix, New Jersey, when Herbert was drafted into the military. After leaving the service, they moved back to Birmingham briefly before moving to Caledonia, Mississippi. She worked in the garment plant for 27 years while raising her children. In 1996, she and Herbert moved to Jasper, Alabama to be closer to their family, and they joined Zion Rest Primitive Baptist Church where their son pastors. She was a faithful member of the church all her life, and in her last days spoke of looking forward to going home to meet her Lord and Savior.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bishop and Nancy Payne;her husband, Herbert C Kitchens; her brothers and sisters, Emory Payne, Kitty Dee Holston, Preston Payne, Wallace Payne, Glenn Payne, Etoy Sealy, Myrtis Holston, and Mildred Womack.

She is survived by her children, George (Joyce) Kitchens of Decatur, Charles H (Doris) Kitchens of Jasper; her grandchildren, Brian Kitchens of Decatur, Beverly Kitchens of Fredericksburg, VA, Carl (Laura) Kitchens of Tallahassee, FL, Laura (Alan) Rhoades of Birmingham, Emily (Adam) Kinsaul of Jasper, and Derrick (Sami) Kitchens of Birmingham; her great grandchildren, Gavin Kitchens, Samuel Kinsaul, and Asa Kinsaul; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

All who knew Mrs. Kitchens will remember her sweet, loving manner, her sense of humor, and her great love for Jesus Christ.

Visitation was held for family and friends at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home on Sunday, 4 Oct 2015 from 3 until 5 pm.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, 5 Oct 2015. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetary in Carbon Hill. Charles H Kitchens, Derrick Kitchens, and Adam Kinsaul will officiate.

Pall bearers will be Brian Kitxhens, Carl Kitchens, Derrick Kitchens, Adam Kinsaul, Alan Rhoades, Dave Virkler, Jim Kitchens and Austin Wouters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zion Rest Primitive Baptist Church at 1304 Viking Drive, Jasper, AL 35501.
