J. RALPH FIERY, 81, a former Hagerstown city councilman and judge of the Orphans Court, died Tuesday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jane Hollinger of 25 S. Colonial Drive. Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of Elmer and Annie Orrick Fiery.

He had worked for a number of years at R.M. Hays and Brothers, and in 1945 opened his own wallpaper store. He retired in 1963. He had served as city councilman of Ward Three from 1953 to 1961, and was a judge of the Washington County Orphans Court from 1966 to 1970. He was a member of the Hagerstown Park Board.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the 9:30 Sunday School Class, Friendship Lodge No. 84, A.F.&A.M.; Ithiel R.A. Chapter No. 27, Palestine Council No. 16, R&S.M., Cumberland Consistory, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon No. 95.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jane Hollinger, Hagerstown; and Mrs. Marie Ransone, Towson; sister, Miss Ruth C. Fiery, Hagerstown; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held at the Minnich Funeral Home; burial was at the convenience of the family.
