Dale B. Brannom, M.D., 72, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at his residence in Abilene.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South. Burial will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home's 542 Hickory location, where he will be in state.

He was born to Al and Effie (Naveau) Brannom on June 17, 1931, in Houston, Texas. He was a medical doctor and moved to Abilene from Dallas in 1971.

He married Ernestine Scott on September 22, 1978, in Austin, Texas. He served on the steering committees for The Boy Scouts of America at national, state and local levels. He was president of Taylor-Jones-Haskell county medical society, a fellow and was on the steering committee for the American College of Radiology. Dr. Brannom was also a stockholder in Radiology Associates of Abilene until health problems forced him into retirement. He received the Distinguished Eagle Award from The Boy Scouts of America in 1995. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean war and received two purple hearts and the bronze star of valor. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Abilene.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Effie Brannom.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Brannom of Abilene; sons, David Scott Brannom and wife, Carol, of Palm City, Florida, and Michael Brannom of Baytown; daughters, Flavia Lynn of Baytown, Jan Smith of Abilene, Jane Jones of Garland, and Karen Jones of Trinity, TX; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Johnny Brown and wife, Shirley, of Houston.
