Thomas Hunt
Thomas Hunt was born March 10, 1844, at Dover, England. When he was eight years old the parental family came to the United States and located at Augusta, New York, where he grew to young manhood and where, on January 26, 1865, he was united in marriage to Mary Louisa Taylor, who preceded her husband in death two years ago. To this union were born five children: four daughters and one son, three of the daughters having preceded the father in death.
The family came to Kansas in 1901 and located at White City, where it resided until 1908, then they moved to Greenwood County and have since resided in communities adjacent to Madison. For the past seven years Mr. Hunt had made his home with his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Davey. Since the departure of his wife two years ago, he has been in a state of declining health owing to the ripe age he had attained, yet he was sufficiently strong to do light work and he attended the services of the church just a few hours before his death, which occurred at the home of his daughter at 10 o'clock Sunday night, May 7, following a violent heart attack at 6:30 in the evening. His age was 89 years, one month and 27 days.
On November 3, 1912, he confessed faith in his Saviour and was baptized, and has since been a faithful and devout member of the Church of Christ of Madison. All who have had the privilege of knowing him have been made better by that association, and unite in the testimony that "he was a good man."
Those who survive to mourn his going are the daughter, Mrs. W. C. Davey, and family of Madison; the son; William Hunt, of Badger, Cal.; one sister, Mrs. Alice Sturtevant, of Hubbardsville, New York; ten grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a number of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the Christian Church Tuesday afternoon, May 9, at two o'clock, with F. M. McDonald in charge. Lucy Ellen Thornton, Mrs. S. P. Haas, J. Elton Horton, and F. M. McDonald sang.
