Long Time Islander Dies at Home Saturday
AUSTIN -- Charles S. Watts passed away suddenly Saturday morning at his home at Austin, Washington, after an illness of three weeks.
Mr. Watts was born at Salisbury Illinois on February 11, 1859. He was married to Annie Elizabeth Cramer on December 24, 1878 at Florence, Missouri. They celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary last December.
Mr. Watts came to Whidbey Island on October 12, 1917 and has lived here continuously with his wife since that time.
Mr Watts was well known as a gardener by many people on the Island. He was engaged in berry ranching until his health failed about eight years ago.
A member of the Christian church, Mr Watts was loved by all who knew him and is survived by his widow and ten living children.
The survivors are: Mrs. C. S. Watts of Austin; Mrs. E. E. Sappington of Spokane; Mrs. C. E. Collins, Tacoma; Mrs. C. A. Apps, San Francisco, California; Mrs. Dewey Barton, Alameda, California; Mrs. Orlia Guenther, Mrs. Arthur Dew and M. E. Watts of Portland, Oregon; James Watts, Classic, Washington; W. O. Watts and W. R. Watts of Port Angeles. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The funeral services were held Monday at 10 o'clock at Bay View under the direction of Cunningham Funeral Service and graveside services were held at Port Angeles, Washington where the body was interred.
