Walter Roy Watts was born in Spokane, Wash., on July 1, 1907 to Annie Elizabeth (Kraemer) Watts and Charles S. Watts. He was the youngest of 11 children.

When he was ten, the family moved to Whidbey Island, Wash. He attended school through the eighth grade before entering the workforce. He married Clara Mae Porter on October 22, 1931 in Port Angeles, Wash. They had four children: Dorothy, Donna, Melvin, and Caroline.

By 1949, the family settled in Grants Pass, Ore. He divorced Clara in the mid-1960s. His second wife, Frances Watts, preceded him in death in 1989.

Walter had many jobs over his career, including machinist and grocery store owner, but he retired after many years as an excellent carpenter.

Besides his wife Frances, he was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his first wife and his daughter, Dorothy. He was survived by his three remaining children, six grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
