Dorothy Idlee Sheffield was the loving and devoted wife of Eugene "Red" Sheffield from March 1920 until his death in September 1978. She was born in Grimes County (now Montgomery County) to George and Maggie Taylor. Her Dad died when she was only 10 mos old. She had one older biological sister, Effie, who lived to adulthood. But when her mother, Maggie, married Wylie Mitchell of Grimes County, she was given many step siblings and then half brothers and sisters to cherish.

In 1920, she miscarried her first child, a son. He would have been named "Ebbie" as a namesake to her oldest brother Ebbie Taylor who died at a young age. Her last and only living child was Zelma Idlee Sheffield. Zelma married Melvin Cox and they blessed the Sheffield's with three grandchildren: Ladean, Donna and Melvin Eugene. Before her death she was further blessed with three great grandchildren. They are sons of Ladean & her husband Jerry: Darryl, Noel and Terry Bowman.

Dorothy Sheffield loved her family with every ounce of her being. She joyfully devoted her life to family, to her neighbors and friends, to her large extended family and to her church fellowship. Although short in statue with a tiny sweet voice, she was able to keep all aspects of her life "tidy" and well in order. She always enjoyed getting her hair done and neatly dressing to include earrings & a necklace. Her joy and her laughter still ring out in our hearts!

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8

.As her husband, Red Sheffield, said so often "I don't say good-bye.

I just say so long until we meet again in that home not built with hands".
