Oscar A. Newquist, 69, former water company manager here, died Wednesday in a hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He was born in Gallitzin, Pa., graduated from high school in Youngwood, Pa., and from Penn State University.
Mr. Newquist moved to Muncie in 1942 as manager of Muncie Water Works and lived here 10 years. After leaving Muncie, he moved to Fairhaven, N.J., where he was vice president and general manager of Monmouth Consolidated Water Works. The Newquists remained there until his retirement in 1969.
Mr. Newquist was a member of Christ's United Methodist Church in Ft. Lauderdale, a former deacon and trustee of First Presbyterian Church, Muncie, and past governor of Rotary District 656. He was also past president of the Indiana Section of American Water Works.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Stahlberg Newquist; two daughters, Mrs. James (Joan) Brown, Troy, Mich., and Mrs. Sterling (Mardell( Gentry, Santa Ana, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Richard Mertz, Dover, N.J.; a brother, Ralph Newquist, Connersville; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held in Meeks Mortuary at 10 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Lewis Weber Gishler officiating. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Mausoleum. Friends may call at the mortuary from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
