He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war. His next-of-kin shown in the Sunpapers on Aug. 29, 1943, is his wife, Mrs. G. Batham, 34 W. Montgomery St.
Bernabe was declared "Missing In Action" when the Steel Navigator was hit by a torpedo from German submarine U-610 and sunk in the North Atlantic during the war. He was awarded the Mariner's Medal.
His remains were not recovered.
