Catharine O (1840-1914) m Thomas D Smith
William Seaman (1842-1910) m Elizabeth Carroll
John (c. 1847-1865)
Charles (1853-1861)
"Edwin" (c. 1859-?)
Daniel (c. 1863-after 1899) m 1 Mary H Prim 2 Anna Smith
Richard was a farmer who lived much of his life in Nassau County. In 1870 US Census he is enumerated as a farmer with plenty of property living with his wife, although his youngest child Daniel is not enumerated with them. (Was he living with relatives? Daniel had not died for in 1885 he was married in Iowa and he was still alive in Fulton Co. Illinois in 1900). Despite his landed wealth in 1870, Richard is recorded as having entered a "New York Almshouse/Poorhouse" in Hempstead in 1879. And according to his Brooklyn death certificate he died "paralytic from apoplexy" so perhaps he had moved to the city after becoming too disabled to farm. He was "65 years 3 months and 15 days" at death. His death certificate lists "Fosters Meadow" Long Island as his place of burial. Since his parents, William and Mary, and brothers, John and Charles, are buried in this cemetery and his brother Charles' burial place is also listed as "Fosters Meadow" on his NYC death certificate, Richard most likely was also buried here. However, there is no marker, and St Johns Cemetery custodian would not return calls to confirm their records.
