He was born June 9, 1926, in Homer Township, Benton County, the son of John and Beatrice (Mason) Callahan. He grew up on the family farm south of Dysart and graduated from Dysart High School in 1943. His first job was working for Rath meat packing in Waterloo, Iowa There he joined the Air Reserves.
Mark served his country in the United States Air Force during WWII. Following his discharge, he attended Spartan Aeronautics School in Tulsa, Okla., and was then employed by United Airlines as an airline mechanic in 1946.
He was united in marriage to Marjorie Jean Christian on Sept. 9, 1946 in Dysart. Mark retired from United Airlines in 1988 as a Captain, flying international flights to the Orient. He and his wife Marjorie, made their home in the Suburbs of San Francisco. Mark enjoyed wood working and drawing in his spare time.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Russell Callahan of Dysart, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; three sons, Thomas and John of Louisiana and Bill of Salt Lake City, Utah; two brothers, Ivan of Salt Lake City, Utah and Warren of Folsom, Californian; and three grandchildren: Heather, Christian and Heidi.
