Dellar Modell (Kizer) Hamill was born November 10, 1921 in Hugo, OK to Harry Cern and Thelma Mae (Walker) Kizer. She passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 in Hugo, OK at the age of 94.
She married Jess N. Hamill on October 12, 1940 in Hugo, OK. Modell was a wife and a mother, a homemaker, who spent most of her time in activities that furthered the interests and well-being of her family. Before she married, she attended the female-counterpart of the CCC at Idabel where she studied “homemaking skills” and honed what she had brought from home with her (i.e. menu planning, economical spending, raising a family, vegetable garden, variable food preparation, sewing, etc.). Modell was a perfectionist when it came to sewing clothing for her daughters and shirts for her son, and she taught all of them to sew. She loved to quilt and to crochet afghans, many of which were entered in the Choctaw County Fair, usually winning all blue ribbons. She also entered fresh vegetables, canned fruit and vegetables, and other produce she raised herself. The family raised chickens, beef, and pork, then processed them for eating, and Modell always kept a milk cow for the children to have fresh milk and had beef cattle for 75 years. She also farmed and tended crops while her husband was in WWII, along with caring for their young children.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers; four sisters; and grandsons, Billie Caldwell and the Harrison twins.
Modell is survived by son, Mark Hamill of Hugo, OK; daughters, Goldie Jean Caldwell and husband, Bill, of Gatesville, TX, Jessie Newal Fondy of Chickasha, OK, Frances Lorraine Harrison of Hugo, OK, Marion Modell Durham and husband, Harold, of Granbury, TX and Susan Elizabeth Hunter and husband, Howard, of Dallas, TX; brother, Dr. Harry C. Kizer and wife, Dorothy, of Rockwell, TX; sisters, Edith Dunn of Paris, TX and Geneva Mae Grider and husband, Oliver, of Noble, OK; grandchildren, Cara Leigh Bradford of Waco, TX, Randall Caldwell of Pipe Creek, TX, Jeffrey Brian Harrison and wife, Christa, of Mt. Vernon, TX, Scott Hunter of Garland, TX, Travis Lester and wife, Jessica, of McAllen, TX, Joshua Fondy and wife, Raven, of Chickasha, OK, and Kaury Hamill of Hugo, OK; great-grandchildren, Nathan Caldwell, Dakota Harrison, Brenton Harrison, Addie Harrison, Grant Lester, Reina Lester, J.T. Lester, Kayleigh Fondy, Ethan Fondy, Jaxynn Fondy and Parker Fondy; great-grandchildren, Laekyn Caldwell and Olivia Harrison, as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel with Harold E. Durham officiating and burial following in the Shoat Springs Cemetery.
