CIVIL WAR
Etna – James Blaine Erskine died Sunday, October 26, 1930 at the home of his son Lawrence. He was born in Easton November 11, 1846, the son of Roger H. and Maria (McCobb) Erskine. The most of his life was spent in Easton. In August 1862, he came from Bradford to Bangor and enlisted in Captain Samuel Daggett's Co. B, first Maine Heavy Artillery. Although but 15 years of age at the time, like thousands of other boys of those days, he passed for 18. Discharged for disability, he reenlisted in Bangor in Captain Daniel White's Co. A 31st infantry and served to the end of the war being wounded in action. He served a total of two years and ten months.

He was twice married, first to Laura Luce of Easton and following her death, to Annie Bangs of the same town, who survives. The family lived there until their removal to Washburn about 20 years since. In about 1920, Mr. Erskine went to Etna.

Besides his wife Annie, he is survived by nine children, Lovina Tees of Newport, Helen Easler of Presque Isle, James Blaine of Skowhegan, Lawrence of Etna, William of Dixmont, Alton of Natick, Mass., Gladys Lamb of Camden, Eva Coffey of Presque Isle, and Amos of Etna. Two are deceased: Laura who died in infancy and Charles who passed away as a young man. Twelve grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held on October 29th at the farm home of Harry Easler with the Rev. Hayward Thomas officiating. Burial was in the family lot in the Easton Village Cemetery. (Grandmother's Scrapbook -BW)
