Lloyd was drafted into the US Army by the Selective Service and was a part of the field artillery. He arrived in Vietnam 5 December 1967 was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, 1st Battalion, 77th Artillery, Battery B.
Lloyd and 10 soldiers were killed at landing zone Peanuts during Operation Scotland II.
