Nova was a McGrady through and through. She cherised her Scotch-Irish heritage, and coming from a large family, meant to help out on the farm in Carroll County as a youngster. After graduating from Radford College with a Bachelor of Science, she taught English at Carroll County High School until her retirement. She was very strict in her teaching. She required all attention in her classroom, according to my cousin who had her as a teacher. She raised three wonderful children, John Purroy Jackson Jr., James Ewell Jackson and Susan Rachel Jackson Hatcher. Nova married John Purroy Jackson Sr., a US Army veteran of World War II after he returned stateside from service in the South Pacific. After the war they started a family and had John, James, and Susan. After her husband went to be with the lord in 2003, she kept up with the home front as well as going out to be with family and friends to keep her going. She loved company and always enjoyed people who came by to visit her. She was intelligent, no nonsense, who loved to play cards with other McGrady's along with a mixed drink on the side. She enjoy keeping up her garden and the upkeep of the outside and inside of her home. She loved the McGrady's and loved going to the McGrady family reunions each year at Leo and Shirley Semones homestead outside of Hillsville.
