When originally uploaded to Find a Grave, the nearly illegible given name on this tombstone was interpreted to read "James" Schuyler. With photo enhancement, however, the name "Jacob" Schuyler can now be deciphered. The inscribed death date of 24 Dec 1842 concurs with the death index for Jacob and corroborates this recent interpretation. The inscription appears to read, "40 years, one month, 25 days," which also concurs with the known birth date for Jacob.

The will of Jacob's younger brother, Aaron Schuyler, who had no issue, lists the children of his siblings as his heirs. Among them are all but one (Sarah Ann) of Jacob & Getty (Elston) Schuyler's children, including: Mary Jane (Schuyler) and Peter Wolf, John Schuyler and William Schuyler.
