The son of Isaac Newton and Abigail Beals Diehl, he-was born November 19; 1864 in Jonesboro, Tenn.
A retired carpenter, he came to Iowa City 50 years ago.
In 1899 he married Cordia Ellen Corlett. She died in 1900.
They were the parents of a daughter, Mary Lenore Diehl.
On May 4, 1904 he was married to Margaret Williams. The couple celebrated their golden anniversary last year.
In addition to his widow and daughter, survivors include four sons, Clarence and Lester, both of Iowa City, Lawrence to Long Beach, Calif., and Alfred of Los Angeles,-Calif.
There are three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Beckman Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Sanks officiating. Burial will Oakland Cemetery.
