Frederick arrived at the Parris MCRD 12 July
1967 for his boot camp training.
He was sent to Vietnam and arrived 17
December 1967 and was assigned to the 2nd
Platoon of Hotel Company,2nd Battalion,3rd
Marine Regiment,3rd Marine Division.
Frederick was on a 10 men night time patrol
when he went missing,8 kilometers north
northeast of Dien Ban.The patrol was unable
to locate him and he was listed as Missing
In Action.Frederick died during captivity 2
January 1969,due to malnourshment.
His body was recovered 4 October 1994 from
the grave where he was buried by other POWs
in captivity and identified 13 April 1995.
He was promoted from Pvt to Sgt while being
listed as a POW.
Survived by his parents,Frederick W & Julia V
Burns of Merrick,NY.
His father had died 1986 and his mother died
2 years later after Sgt Burns remains were
buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.
