She was born November 23, 1918, in Venice, a daughter of William C. and Lola Rankin McElhaney, and was a lifelong resident of the Canonsburg-Houston Area.
Mrs. Wright was a member of the Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church.
She graduated from Cecil High School, where she starred in basketball and softball, and later graduated from Penn Commercial College. She was the first secretary to the superintendent of the Canon-McMillan School District and had served under five superintendents during 37 years, retiring in July 1973.
She was a past president of the Monday Evening Women's Club, past president of the Auxiliary to American Legion Post 902, of Houston, and past president of Washington-Fayette-Greene Counties Council, American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband, Clinton Wright; one daughter, Lynda Wright, Pittsburgh; two brothers, Raymond McElhaney of Carnegie and Roger McElhaney, McDonald; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Weber, Houston, and Mrs. Mary Cain, Canonsburg; also several nieces and nephews.
Friends of Dorothy McElhaney Wright, 543 Park Avenue, Canonsburg, who died Tuesday, January 28, 1975, will be received in the Louis N. Sollon Funeral Home, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, by the Rev. Charles G. Skuce Jr. pastor of Canonsburg U.P. Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
