PETER KORNELY

Death Saturday in Holy Family Hospital, following a long illness, of Peter Kornely of typhus.

Mr. Kornely, who was well-known throughout the entire county, was born 15 December 1850 in Gau Algosheim, Hesse-Darmstadt, and came to America with his parents as a 2-year old boy, the family settling in Town Kossuth. He spent the greater part of his life there. 35 years ago he married Miss Mary Hessel, daughter of Casper Hessel. He chose public life and filled various town offices for 21 years. In 1900 he was candidate for the office of County Treasurer but lost to Charles Hacker. For the last two years he lived here in Manitowoc and operated a guest house.

In addition to his widow he is survived by 3 sons and 5 daughters, as well as 2 brothers living in Milwaukee.

The funeral was held Tuesday in Francis Creek under the auspices of the Catholic Knights, to which he belonged for many years.

DIED:
Peter Kornely, a well-known resident of the city, died last Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Holy Family hospital, whither he had been taken two weeks before his death when he was suffering from a siege of the grip. A few days later his condition grew worse and then typhoid fever supervened, which disease resulted in his death, which occurred after an illness of three weeks.

He was fifty-six years of age. He leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his untimely departure. The children are: George and Charles, who live on the old family homestead in the town of Kossuth, near Kingsbridge; Peter, Jr., Appleton; Mrs. Mat Petri, Rangeline; and Mrs. Frank J. Kerscher and the Misses Alma, Emma and Martha Kornely of this city.

Mr. Kornely had been a resident of the city for the past three years, during which time he conducted the Cizek house on Chicago street. Prior to his coming here he was engaged in farming in the town of Kossuth. He was well known in the county, and his demise will be deplored by many friends.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Kornely home near Kingsbridge, and at the St. Anna's church, Francis Creek, at 2 o'clock, interment taking place in the Francis Creek cemetery.
