He was married to Emily Sheldon on September 23, 1863, and went to house keeping on their farm in the township of Hillsboro, Vernon County.
To this union six children were born: Emma Jean who died at the age of two years, Mrs. George Hill and Mrs. J. C. Johnson, of Mauston, Geneva, of Seattle, Wash,; George of the town of Lindina and Mrs. George Johnson of Elroy.
During the Civil War he enlisted in Co. I, 49 Reg., Wis. Volunteers.
October 1881, the family moved to a farm in the town of Plymouth where Mr. and Mrs. Mutch remained until about five years ago when they came to Mauston to live.
About two months ago they went to spend the winter with the son and soon after he contracted a cold which developed into pheumonia. Owing to this weakened condition he was unable to withstand the severe illness and passed away on Armistice Day.
he leaves to mourn his departure his invalid wife, five children, twelve grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held from the congregational church sunday, Rev. F. N. Dexter officiating. Burial was in the Millard's Prairie cemetery.
Military: Enlisted as a Private on 21 February 1865 in Company I, 49th Infantry Regiment Wisconsin.
Received a disability discharge Company I, 49th Infantry Regiment Wisconsin on 25 September 1865.
