He was born December 16, 1903 in South Grove Township near Kirkland, the son of Ashel B. and Harriett Driscoll Byers. He married Wanda Miner in Sycamore February 18, 1933.
He was a South Grove area farmer all of his life and was a fifth generation member of a South Grove pioneer family. He attended South Grove and Kirkland schools and was a former member of the Kirkland Lions Club.
He is served by his wife Wanda and two daughter, Joyce Thornton and Jane (Vernon) Johnson, all of Kirkland, two sons, Robert (Karen) Byers of Batavia and William Byers of Rockford; six sisters, Louise Patten, DeKalb, Harriett Schoeneberger of Chicago, Opal O’Neill of Glen Ellyn, Olive Cudden, Margaret Larson and Charlotte Olson, all of Sycamore; 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and a son-in-law, Richard Thornton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Quiram Kirkland Funeral Home with Rev. Andrew Hu officiating. Burial will be at the South Grove Cemetery near Kirkland.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
