Muriel graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1926 and Syracuse University's School of Management in 1930. While at Syracuse she was on the women's basketball team and the field hockey team. She later received an MBA from New York University. She worked in retailing in New York City but returned to Tupper Lake to work with her parents in the Ginsberg Department Store which she managed until 1981. She enjoyed bridge, golf, cross-country skiing and traveling.
