On June 11, 1864 they moved to Morganza, LA they remained there until they were in an action at Bayou Sarah in Sept. In June 1865 they were consolidated with the 65th U.S.C.T. and were mustered out July 12, 1865.
Franklin's name appears on Plaque C-77 on the National African American Civil War Soldiers Monument in Washington, DC.
When he died on Jan 20, 1927 in Norwood Park, IL., his death certificate stated he was 73 years old born in 1854 in Missouri. He was single and a cook by profession, residing at 466 E. 35th St., Chicago, IL. He was buried on Jan 24, 1927 in Lincoln Cemetery.
On Nov 1, 1928 a government headstone was shipped to Lincoln Cemetery to mark Franklin's grave as a veteran.
