Johannes was the son of Johann George and Catharina (Haberacker) Weidenhammer. He was born in Bern Township, Berks Co, PA.

He married Sarah Glauser, daughter of Peter and Catharine (Boyer) Glauser, around 1813. They were blessed with several children: Johannes Glauser, George Glauser, Reuben Glauser, Jacob Glauser, Catharine Glauser, Amos Glauser, John Glauser, Adam Glauser, Anna Glauser, Esther Glauser, and Susanna Glauser Weidenhammer. Their children were born in Richmond Township, Berks Co, PA. Johannes was known as John during his life time. He was a prominent citizen of Richmond Township, owning 325 acres of the best land in the locality. He was a true friend of the poor, having at the time of his death a number of tenant houses on his farm, in which lived the needy, whom he helped to support both as an individual and as an overseer of the poor of Berks County.
His funeral was a large one and was largely attended by the people of the community, especially by those to whom he had been a life long friend and benefactor. 27 AUG 1842 An index to baptismal records on file in the Berks County Historical Society shows John with a date (baptismal?) of Feb. 19, 1783. His gravestone gives a birth year of 1786. The index lists his parents as George and Catharine. It also lists Johannes and Margaret (his grandparents) as sponsors. After John's father, George, died in 1807 John apparently farmed George's land - the 270 acres in Richmond Township that George had been given by his father, Johannes (ID-0001). It is reasonable to believe that John was scheduled to receive this land but only after George's widow, Catharine, passed on. In 1819 John was appointed administrator of the estate of Johannes (ID-0001). - his grandfather. GJW/SSW are not sure why he was appointed administrator at this time - his grandfather had died in 1804. Perhaps Johannes' widow, Margaretha, was administrator until her death. She died in 1812, however, and it is not clear why it took another 7 years to appoint a replacement. Nor is it clear why they appointed John. Some sons of Johannes (ID-0001) were alive at the time. Perhaps it was because John's father, George, had been the eldest surviving son and they kept in the same line and appointed George's son.
