She was born in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada on March 11, 1898. She was the daughter of William Andrews and his wife Sarah Ann Fairservice.
She was married to Harley Lorne Hughes in November 19, 1919, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Following the birth of her 3 children, the family moved to the United States and settled in Olympia.
There she began and successfully managed her own business for 25 years. Her benevolence and cheerfulness created many very deep and lasting friendships.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Marion Gabbard, and granddaughter, Debbie Gabbard/Strobe.
