William M. "Speedy" Phillips passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015, at his home in Avery, Texas. He was 87. Speedy was born June 13, 1928, in De Kalb, Texas, to Wiley Marvin and Mary Elizabeth Johnson Phillips.
He was retired from Red River Army Depot and was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carrie M. Phillips; three sons, Boyce, David and Travis Phillips; two brothers, Charles M. Phillips and Dan Phillips; and a sister, Gladys Williams.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Charlie Bower of Avery, Texas; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William M. Phillips II of Iowa Park, Texas and Jack L. and Regina Phillips of Avery, Texas; four sisters, Della Jo Foster of De Kalb, Texas, Sarah Phillips of Rusk, Texas, Betty Patterson of Fort Collins, Colorado and Rosie Phillips of Houston, Texas; and 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas with Rev. Harold D. Lambert officiating. Interment will be in West Bowie Cemetery in De Kalb, Texas.
