Mr. John P. Alston and Miss Alice Duffy of This Place.
A pretty, quiet wedding took place Wednesday morning, at 8:30 o’clock, at the residence of Rev. J. J. Gormley, pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic church. Mr. John P. Alston and Miss Alice Duffy, a daughter of the widow of the late John Duffy, were the high contracting parties. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Gormley in the presence of the immediate relatives and a few invited friends of the couple. Miss Susan McCann acted as bridesmaid and Mr. Joseph Ryder as best man. The bride was attired in a handsome brown traveling suit and wore a bouquet of white chrysanthemums. Her attendant wore a bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums. After the ceremony of the party repaired to the home of the bride on Eighth street, where a sumptuous wedding breakfast was served. A large number of handsome present were received. The happy pair left on Day Express on their wedding tour. They will go direct to Philadelphia, and after a short stay in that city they will visit Mr. Alston’s friends at Mt. Holly, N.J. and New York.
The bride and groom are both well known, and highly respected people. When they arrived at the depot to take the train east, both were met by a large number of their intimate friends who showered with rice as they passed along the platform.
Alice died on April 27, 1947 at Renovo, PA. She was 80 years old, widowed, and lived at 128 8th St. Alice was taken to Williamsport, PA for her burial on May 1st. The informant on her death certificate was Mrs. John McCarthy (daughter Laura).
