He married Helen L. Smith, October 11, 1958, at First Brethren Church in Vinco, PA. He was saved in Nov., 1958 & his life-long passion was that everyone he met know Jesus as Savior. The joy of his life was his children and grandchildren. His career of dairy farming from 1951 to 1975, was interrupted by a 2-yr. stint in the U.S. Army in 1959 & 1960. He then continued crop farming while working as a tool & die maker retiring from the engineering dept. of General Broach in Morenci. His retirement years were blessing others with his various handy-man skills. His hobbies were his grandchildren, gardening, beekeeping, fishing, hunting, golfing and wintering in Florida.
He was a member of the class of 1953 of Morenci High School, also a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston, Southeast Mich. Chapter of Child Evangelism Fellowship Committee, Lenawee County Farm Bureau "156 Sodbusters" & Morenci American Legion Post #368.
Richard is survived by Helen, his wife of 57 years, along with his four children: Connie (Curt) Gordon of Perry, Ohio, Cindy (Scott) Graham of Adrian, MI., Richard L. (Sue) Woodby of Grand Haven, MI., Gloria (Bob) Curtis of Allendale, MI.; 19 grandchildren: Andrew (Chelsey) Gordon, Daniel Gordon, Eric (Courtney) Graham, Ryan (Amy) Graham, Julie (Jon) Seneker, Tyler Graham, Kate (J.P.) Layug, Karin (Luke) Bylsma, Kristin (Nathan) Muse, Thomas (Rachel) Woodby, Michael Woodby, Benjamin (Beth) Curtis, Joshua (Stacy) Curtis, Zachary Curtis, Alicia (Nathaniel) King, Caleb Curtis, Ethan Curtis, Christina Curtis, & Samuel Curtis; fourteen great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Howard (Joyce) Woodby of Kendallville, IN and Thomas (Mildred) Woodby of Tunnel Hill, GA. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Laverne Woodby and 3 brothers, Frank, Carrol and Gordon.
A Funeral Service will be held at Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, MI, Friday, December 18, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Duane Cross & Pastor Curt Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Packard Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Morenci American Legion Post #368. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and also on Friday from 12:00 – 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
