Wrightstown lost one of its oldest and best known citizens in point of age and long time residents in the person of August Carl Kobs, whose death occurred on June 18, of heart disease. The descendent was born in Germany, March 17, 1850. In 1869 he came to America, and married Johanna Wilke, locating at Marquette, Mich. Where they resided about two years when they came to Wrightstown, and made their home here ever since. Mr. Kobs was always a homeowner and was very much interested in the growth of our village. The funeral was held from St. John’s Lutheran church, of which he had been a member since its organization, Friday afternoon. Interment was in St. John’s Lutheran cemetery. Surviving are his wife and eight children, Bertha (Mrs. Alb. Willer), Kaukauna; Mrs. Lucy Farrow, Santa Monica, Cal; Wade W. Kobs, De Pere; Fred J., Tomahawk; Clara (Mrs. A.C. Meithner), Kaukauna; Ida (Mrs. Roy Giebel), August Jr., Chicago; Freda (Mrs. W. Z. Cooper), Spokane, Wash.; all of whom attended the funeral. The church was filled to capacity with friends and relatives who followed the remains to their resting place. The spiritual and floral bouquets were many and beautiful, including gate, spar, anchor, cross, pillow heart, baskets and sprays, which had been sent from Spokane, Chicago, Detroit, and offered by members of the family and other relatives and friends. The pallbearers were his three sons and three son-in-laws, Wade Kobs, Fred Kobs, Aug. Kobs, Jr, Albert Willer, Andrew Meithner, Roy Giebel. Nieces acted as flower girls, and as the remains were borne from the home to the church ther bearers kept step with the tolling of the funeral bell. Special music was furnished by Miss Lydia Helwig singing in German, “Let Me Go, That I May See Jesus.” Rev. F. C. Uetzmann, who officiated at the funeral, spoke in German and English..

Mr. and Mrs. Kobs observed their golden wedding on July 26, 1919. the Rev, F. C. Uetzmann, in a brief address dwelt upon the character of the worthy jubilations, the gift of God bestowed upon them, and the blessings received from the Father in heaven. The greatest gift that the Heavenly Father ever bestowed upon man is the Savior Jesus Christ, given for all, but received only by those who believe in Him.
