His death certificate # 909, from the NY State Archives, Albany, NY states: Durell enlisted on August 27, 1862 at Hamilton, NY. He was a private in Co. G, 157th Infantry. Killed 1st July, 1863 at Gettysburg, PA. He was 18 years old, blue eyes, 5' 10" tall with sandy hair and complexion.
