"Ed Cavaness Sr., 91, died Aug. 14 of heart disease at his residence in Hemet. A scattering of ashes was held in Santa Monica Bay.
Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside handled arrangements.
Mr. Cavaness, who was born in Payson, Utah, lived in Hemet for 17 years. He worked for the Los Angeles Fire Department for two years before joining the Santa Monica Police Department in 1934. He was in charge of the communications department and juvenile bureau there before retiring in 1960. He was a Master Mason and Knight Templar in the Masons Lodge in Ocean Park. He was a past president of the Eagles Lodge in Ocean Park.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Santa Monica; son, Arthur of Santa Monica; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren."
