Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Claire (Walz)Arkfeld, 86, of Battle Creek will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 4, 2015, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish Hall. Reverend Michael Malloy will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. at the parish hall and a rosary will follow. The Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Claire (Walz) Arkfeld died Monday, December 28, 2015 at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado.
Mary Claire was born on October 5, 1929 in Norfolk, the daughter of Lawrence and Dorothy (Schriener) Walz. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1947 and later graduated from beauty school and opened her own salon “The Clip and Curl” in Norfolk. She married William (Bill) Arkfeld on September 24, 1959. Together they farmed and raised five children in Battle Creek. Mary Claire was a lifetime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was baptized, received her first communion, confirmed, married and will be laid to rest at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Mary Claire loved her family and nothing put a smile on her face faster that a call, letter or visit from one of her children or grandchildren. She spent her last nine years in nursing home facilities. She was loved by her caregivers, quietly offering her ear and words of wisdom.
Mary Claire is survived by her five children, Tim and Lu Arkfeld, Dunbar, NE; Terri and Gerard Polt, Pierce NE; Nancy Flinn, Centennial ,CO; Rick and Karen Arkfeld, Battle Creek, NE; Joan and Randy Moore of Centennial, CO; fifteen grandchildren, Emily and Pat Arkfeld, Rachael (and Taylor) Green, Nathan, Jordan, Tom, Mike and Julia Polt, Greg Flinn, Katie, Sarah, and Emily Taylor, Bill and Becca Arkfeld and Claire Moore. Her Sisters Arla Walz of Edina, MN, and Theresa (Trix) Dorenbach of Lincoln, NE, Sister and Brother-in-laws, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her husband Bill Arkfeld, her parents, a brother Larry Walz, a Son-In-Law Jeff Flinn, one Grandchild, one Great Nephew and many In-laws and cousins.
