Fazu Aliyeva was an Avar-speaking, Soviet-born Russian poet. She played a significant role in the development of Dagestani in Russian literature. She was also a human rights activist.

She won two Orders of the "Badge of Honor," two orders of the Orders of Friendships of Peoples and the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle in 2002. She won the Gold Medal of the Soviet Peace Fund, the Jubilee Medal of the World Peace Council, and honorary awards in several different countries.

She passed away on January 1, 2016 at the age of 83 of heart failure.
