OBITUARY: Died July 9, 1921 at the home of his youngest daughter, Mrs. H.H. Walker. Born Oct. 1, 1848, in Clark county, Illinois, he graduated from Marshall college and moved to Benton county, Arkansas. At age 20 he was appointed deputy sheriff of Benton county and in 1869 was appointed U.S. marshal. He resigned after six years and farmed in that area for 13 years. On April 6, 1879, he married Palestine M. Baxley, and of their 9 children five are still living. In 1893 they moved to Oklahoma and took up a claim near Blackwell, where they lived for 14 years before he retired and moved to the city of Blackwell. On Dec. 16, 1908 he converted to Christ and joined the First M.E. church. He moved to Long Beach in October, 1919, for his health. Survived by his wife, five children, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
